Easter Term 2020

There will be no in-person teaching in Easter term 2020; ignore the rest of this page.

Lent Term 2020

Throughout Lent Term 2020, except when notified otherwise, I shall teach in A45, Selwyn on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. I shall teach in Z5, Corpus on Tuesdays. I shall teach in E4, Trinity Hall on Wednesdays from Wednesday 22nd January onwards.

A45, Selwyn

Starting from Grange Road, go into Selwyn College (Old Court) through the main entrance archway, turn right, and enter A staircase through the first door on your right. Go up all of the stairs until you are on the fourth floor. A45 is on the right. You can ask the Selwyn porters for help if you get lost.

A45 is shared between me and Dr Venkateshvaran. Mind the low beams.

Z5, Corpus Christi

Starting from Trumpington Street, go into Corpus Christi College (New Court) through the main entrance archway. Turn left and walk along the edge of the court until you get to a passageway. Go though the passageway and take the right fork, down a few steps, so that you come out into Old Court. (This is a courtyard with an oval lawn.) Turn left and walk around the edge of Old Court until you get to the passageway marked "Oo". Go through this passageway, and through the wooden gate ahead. A little further on, just before the metal gate, there is a door on the left marked "Z": go in and go up all of the stairs until you find Z5, the Isaac Physics Room. You can ask the Corpus porters for help if you get lost.

Before 9am and after 6pm the door to Z staircase will be locked. It is also sometimes locked throughout the day when the porters forget to unlock it. In this case I'll meet you at the door to Z staircase and let you in. After 7.30pm the gate is also locked, though Corpus students have a key. In the unlikely event I'm teaching non-Corpus students this late I'll meet you in the space between the "Oo" passageway from Old Court and the locked (wooden) gate.

Z5 is used with the kind permission of Prof Warner.

Study Labyrinth, Jesus College

This building is officially called the Study Centre. If you know your way around then you can go straight to the room. If it's your first supervision in the Labyrinth, I'll meet you in the West Court reception area. West Court reception can usually be entered directly from Jesus Lane, through the automatic sliding doors here. It can also be reached by a complicated route from the main part of the college: see the college map. If you are not a Jesus student then do not tell the Jesus Porters that you have a supervision in this building. You can however ask them for directions to the West Court reception area if necessary (e.g. if the automatic doors aren't opening), explaining only that you have to meet someone there.

The Study Labyrinth isn't particularly nice inside, but it's what there is.

E4, Trinity Hall

Starting from Trinity Lane, go into Trinity Hall (Front Court) through the main entrance archway/Porters' Lodge, turn left, and enter E staircase through the door in the corner of the courtyard. Go up until you get to E4 (on the first floor). There's a college map if you need it. If you are not a Trinity Hall student then do not ask the Trinity Hall porters for directions to E4.

This room is small but perfectly formed.

E8, Trinity Hall

This room is very similar to E4 except that it is one floor higher, and even smaller. If you are not a Trinity Hall student then do not ask the Trinity Hall porters for directions to E8.

The University Centre

I don't usually schedule a regular supervision here, but I sometimes use it at one-off times, or when another room is unavailable. Go into the University Centre ("Grad Pad") through its main entrance (SW corner), and I'll meet you by the reception.

The University Centre is large and spacious, but its complex diurnal patterns of noise and fellowship can make it difficult to predict when it will be wise to hold supervisions there.

Parish Room, Little St Mary's Church

I usually just use this for middle-of-Easter-term revision sessions. The Church is reached from Little St Mary's Lane, just off Trumpington Street. Go in through the main entrance (North porch) and then into the Parish Centre through the wooden door straight ahead. (The glass doors on your left lead into the nave of the Church.) The Parish Room is then straight ahead.

Non est hic aliud nisi domus Dei et porta caeli.
